Matt Thomas enters his first season with the Point University baseball program in 2018.  Thomas will oversee the hitting, baserunning, and infield play for the Skyhawks and brings 11 years of collegiate coaching experience with eight at the Division I level and three at the NAIA and Division II level.


Thomas spent the past five years coaching at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.  During his tenure at Belmont, Thomas saw the offense reach the top 10 in numerous categories including home runs, walks, stolen bases, and doubles.  Also during his tenure, eight Bruins were selected in the MLB draft and 14 players would go on to play professional baseball.


Prior to his tenure at Belmont, Thomas spent three seasons at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn.  There, his teams batted over .300 each season while was the hitting coach.  While at TNU he saw numerous All-Conference selections within the Trans South Conference, and also helped to bring in four players who would go on to receive All-American honors and one Player of the Year, including two Trojans sign professional contracts.


Prior to his stint at TNU, Thomas began his coaching career at Lipscomb University in the Atlantic Sun Conference.  There, he helped see the Bisons to their first ASC tournament, first conference Championship, first regional appearance, and the first men’s NCAA post-season victory.  Thomas saw six Bison ink professional contracts during his tenure.


Thomas began his playing career as a shortstop at St. Catherine Community College in St. Catherine, Ky.  After his stint at SCC, he transferred to Lipscomb University where he would go on to earn a B.S. in Exercise Science in 2006, and his M.Ed. in Instructional leadership in 2008.  Originally from Louisville, Ky., Thomas now resides in West Point, Ga.
