WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University catcher/designated hitter Juan Reyes (JR/Santo Domingo, D.R.) has been named this week’s Point University Athlete of the Week.

 

Since returning to the lineup on Feb. 25 from a preseason injury, Reyes has boasted team-highs in batting average (.371), doubles (12), home runs (5), extra base hits (17), slugging percentage (.603), and on-base percentage (.423).  He ranks second in hits (43), total bases (70), fourth in RBI (19), and is tied for sixth in walks (11).

 

The Skyhawks are 7-7 without Reyes in the lineup this season, but in the 34 games that he has played, Point is 22-12 with a .667 winning percentage.  On top of his impressive stats, Reyes has hit safely in 27 of his 34 games and has had two separate hitting streaks of nine games, the first from March 17 to April 1, and the second from April 8 to April 22.

 

In conference play this season, Reyes has a batting average of .329 with 25 hits in 22 games.  Reyes has also been a defensive stalwart behind the plate allowing just two passed balls and five errors in 133 chances.
