WEST POINT, Ga. – Men's tennis player Asad Siyyid (SO/Toronto, Ontario, Canada) has been named Point University's Athlete of the Week.  This week, Siyyid was named NAIA National Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 19-25, and earlier in the week Siyyid received Appalachian Athletics Conference Player of the Week honors.

 

Point improved its season records to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in AAC action with three wins in four matches last week.  The Skyhawks defeated a pair of NCAA Division II opponents, Tuskegee University (Ala.), 8-1, and Spring Hill College (Ala.), 9-0, at the Sportsplex in Valley, Ala., on March 21, lost to the NAIA's number 18-ranked team, Tennessee Wesleyan University, 6-3, March 24, and swept Milligan College, 9-0, March 25.

 

Siyyid won all seven matches he played during the week with a 4-0 doubles record, one at number one doubles and three at number two, and won all three of his number one singles matches.  Siyyid improved his singles record to 15-8 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alejandro Hastings Oro from Spring Hill, defeated Mauricio Muniz from Tennessee Wesleyan, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0, and prevailed 6-1, 6-0 over Joshua Crain from Milligan.

 

Siyyid and his doubles partner Zach Sheeler also defeated Joseph Messam and Jabari Hargrove from Tuskegee University, 8-0, at number one doubles and beat Martin Jaramillo and Ferdinand Amanor from Spring Hill, 8-2, at number two doubles later the same day.  Siyyid and Sheeler also won AAC number two doubles matches over Jaime Llardo and Bernat Paredes from Tennessee Wesleyan, 9-8 (7-3), and over Griffin Leonard and Daniel Peacock from Milligan, 8-0.
