WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University forward Celly Ruiz (SR/Ontario, CA) has been named Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 18-14, 2016, after tallying two match-winning goals and leading the first-place Skyhawks to two AAC victories last week.  The Skyhawks are 7-2-1 overall and 4-0-0 in conference and have won five consecutive matches.

Reinhardt University goalkeeper Taylor Asher received AAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors after saving eight opponent shots on goal in a 1-0 conference shutout victory over Milligan College (Tenn.), Sept. 24.

Ruiz scored the match-winning “Golden” goal just 2:37 into the first 10-minute overtime period in a 2-1 AAC home win over Truett-McConnell University, Sept. 21, and scored what proved to be the match-winning goal in the 27th minute of the first half as the Skyhawks earned their third shutout of the season, 1-0, at Bluefield College (Va.) in Sept. 24 AAC action.

Ruiz has scored five match-winning goals this season and leads Point with eight goals, 18 points, 52 shots and 28 shots on goals.  She attempted eight of the Skyhawks’ 19 total shots and six of their 15 shots on goals in Point’s win at Bluefield.
