FULLERTON, Calif. - 2014 Fullerton Union High School Athlete of the Year Shelby Garritson has signed a letter of intent to run for the Lady Skyhawks this coming fall.

Garritson, who has personal records of 5:30 for the 1 mile, 11:27 for the 2 mile and an 18:15 at the Carlsbad 5K cross country race will be counted on all four years to help the Skyhawks reach their team goals.

"I really want to get under 18 minutes for the 5k," Garritson said. "I also want to be All-Conference and make it to Nationals and hopefully be anAll-American. As for my team, it would be amazing if Point's cross country  team won conference and placed at nationals. I hope that all the girls can all get under their personal records and become a family."

Garriston's high school coaches, Joe Gobar and Kerry Madsen, think that Point is getting an amazing athlete. "We are very excited that Shelby has chosen to continue her running career at Point University," Gobar said. "We expect Shelby to flourish in Coach Caldwell's program and set new personal bests along the way."

Point coach Michael Caldwell thinks the sky is the limit for Garritson, and that she will be a great fit for his program.

"Shelby is a good student-athlete who will do great things at Point University," Caldwell said. "I am confident she will not be intimidated by anything that is thrown her way. If Shelby puts in the hard work, she will leave Point with a degree and a athletic career she will be very proud of."

Garritson will be reunited with her sister, Maegan, this fall. The older Garritson signed with Point in March.
