Women's Cross Country - Sun, Nov. 10, 2013

In just the second season of having a women's team score, Point will be sending two more individuals to the National Championships as Susana Marquez and Savanah Hanna both punched their tickets by earning all conference this past Saturday. The girls will represent Point University in Lawrence, Kansas on November 23rd at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships. "This is a tremendous honor for Susana, Savannah, our program and Point University. No team in the AAC has sent more individuals to the National Championship the past two seasons than Point since we made the jump to the NAIA level and the AAC 2 years ago. Like last years qualifiers, Susana (back to back qualifier) and Savannah have worked so hard all season. I am very proud of these two ladies and honored to be their coach, commented Coach Mike Caldwell.

After the race, Susana Marquez and Savanah Hanna were asked to comment about their race and the birth to nationals. "This race proved to me what a cross country race is all about for its competitiveness . Although I didn't beat my all time personal record, I was able to earn a spot to nationals individually along with my teammate Savannah Hanna. I couldn't be any more proud of us, we have trained so hard on our workouts that Coach Caldwell put together for the team. I am really excited for nationals and with good training and an awesome coach, I know me and Savannah will do really well in two weeks. This being my last year in cross country and making it to nationals is such a blessing and I thank God for giving me the gift of running. I couldn't be any more proud of my other teammates as well for how far they have come dealing with many injuries. I just know next year they will come back stronger" said Susana Marquez. "My run at Conference was difficult, but I felt confident throughout the race. My confidence was the result of being a part of a great team that has helped me to run through my nerves, fatigue and remain mentally positive. I am so blessed to be an athlete at Point. I have great coaches and wonderful teammates who all share a Christ centered philosophy. I am looking forward to representing Point at Nationals with Susana, who has pushed me to run my best all season, commented Savanah Hanna.

Next up for the girls is the NAIA National Championships in Lawrence Kansas. Congratulations and best of luck Susana and Savanna
