The Lady Skyhawks cross country team ran in the competitive Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday as they finished 11th overall out of 21 teams scoring. The field consisted of virtually all the top NAIA teams from the southeast and a few other non NAIA teams. The Point women turned in a very strong performance as their top 5 runners averaged a 20:04 over the 5K course. Senior Susana Marquez broke her school record and ran a 19:09 to finish 17th overall out of 200 finishers. "Susie ran really well as she has all year. She averaged a 6:09 pace for more than 3 miles and she is right where she wants to be heading into conference", commented Coach Mike Caldwell.

Finishing with a personal record (PR) was sophomore Savanna Hanna who ran a blazing 19:34 to finish 29th overall.  The next 3 finishers for Point all ran season best times with Esther Estrada coming in at 20:17 (59th overall), Jacqueline Escobedo 20:27 (66th overall) and Kenya Gonzalez, 20:57 for 77th overall. Rounding out the finishers for the Skyhawks and running season best times were, Paola Gonzalez ( 21:33), Kati Williams (21:59) and Shelby Biddle (22:10). Junior Katie Crumbley ran a personal best beating her previous time by more than 40 seconds running a 23:42. "The girls ran strong today. I push them hard and demand a lot out of them and they responded today. I really enjoy being around this group. We have 2 weeks to keep improving as our conference is really strong", stated Coach Caldwell.

Next up for the Skyhawks will be the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships held in Dayton Tennessee on November 9th.
