Women's Cross Country - Sat, Sep. 14, 2013

The Point University women's cross country team finished 4th overall out of 12 schools at the competitive Gulf Coast Stampede. The field was primarily made up of NCAA Division II schools and NAIA schools. NCAA D-II Harding, University of West Florida and Montevallo finished ahead of the Skyhawks.

"I am really proud of the way these girls compete. We had two of our top girls run while being sick today, and they ran a good minute off their typical times, but that shows their commitment to their team and this program to compete under those circumstances," said Head Coach Mike Caldwell.

"The three schools that finished ahead of us are all top schools at the Division II level, so finishing 4th overall is a testament to the depth of our women's team as we asked others to step up today. If healthy, we may have been able to sneak in the top three.,"

Finishing 13th overall in the field of 98 women were Susana Marquez (20:18), 23rd overall, Jacqueline Escobedo (20:43), 24th overall, Savannah Hannah (20:44), Esther Estrada who finished 30th overall (21:00) and rounding out the top five were Kenya Gonzalez who was 48th overall ion a time of 21:50.

Finishing 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th for the Skyhawks were Paola Gonzalez who ran sick in a time of 22:38, Shelby Biddle 22:49, Kati Williams 23:52 and Katie Crumbley in a time of 25:24.

The lady Skyhawks will be back in action on September 28th when they travel to Mercer University to compete in the Run Fit Invitational.
