Women's Cross Country - Wed, Oct. 3, 2012

Running the largest cross country race in the country, the lady Skyhawks once again proved they are a team not to be taken lightly as they finished 17th overall out of 42 universities that scored.

"We are battling a few injuries and we had one girl run while under the weather, considering that, I think we did pretty well as a team today," stated Coach Caldwell.

Junior, Paola Gonzalez (Lancaster, Calif.) (right) was the top finisher for the Skyhawks running 19:58 and finishing 23rd overall out of 339 finishers. "I yelled to Paola that she was in 28th place with 300 meters to go and she really picked it up and she was able to pass five girls to finish in the top 25," added Coach Caldwell.  That was a major accomplishment, as the top 25 finishers all received awards and recognition.

Following close behind Gonzalez was junior Susana Marquez (Garden Grove, Calif.) (left) in a time of 20:15 for 39th overall. Rounding out the scoring for the Skyhawks was freshman Savannah Hanna (Alexander City, Ala.) in 21:33, freshman Riley Morrison (Rincon, Ga) in 21:39, running a personal best, freshman Victoria Perez (Decatur, Ga.) in 22:13 and sophomore Katie Crumbley (McDonough, Ga) in 26:24.

The Skyhawks will be back in action this Friday as they will be hosting 13 universities in the inaugural Point University Invitational held at Lanier Farms. The men will run at 5 p.m. and the women will run at 6 p.m.
