Women's Cross Country - Thu, May 23, 2013

Kenya Gonzalez, a talented distance runner and all around star track performer for Shaw High School, will run for the lady Skyhawks in the fall of 2013. Gonzalez, who ran a personal best of 20:03 in cross country this past fall, was also the overall winner of the MCSD Cross Country Meet in September. She also ran a 20:32 at the Region 5-AAAA meet. On the track Kenya has a personal best of 2:25 in the 800 meter, 12:57 in the 2 mile and was a member of the 4X400 team as well as competing in the high jump. Coach Caldwell commented, "We are truly blessed to have Kenya in our program. She will bring so much to our team. She has really improved over the past 18 months and has an opportunity to be one of the top runners in the conference for a long time." Asked why she decided on Point and what her goals were for next year, Kenya stated, "I felt like I had the best opportunity to succeed in athletics and in academics at Point. I really liked the environment too. Next season my goal is to run a 19:00 flat and work as hard as I can to help my team win conference." Kenya plans on majoring in Business with a concentration in Marketing. Congratulations Kenya!
