WEST POINT, Ga.   Point University (14-5; 9-2 AAC), the second-place team in the Appalachian Athletics Conference Southern Division and third-place (tie) team in the conference overall, recorded its ninth 3-0 sweep of the season with a 25-15, 25-23 and 25-18 victory over Bryan College (5-14; 4-5 AAC), Friday, Oct. 6, in West Point Park Gymnasium.  With the victory, the Skyhawks now won eight consecutive matches.

    

The Skyhawks and the Lions remained neck-and-neck for the first half of the opening set and were last tied at 15-15 before Point took control of the set, closing it out on a 10-0 run to win the set, 25-15.

 

The second set was much closer than the first set.  Point led 21-12 during the second set and recorded four consecutive service aces at one point, but Bryan used an 11-3 run to shrink the Skyhawk's advantage to just one point, 24-23 before Point put the second set away with a kill to win, 25-23.

 

The lead changed 10 times during the third and final set, but the Skyhawks would go on to lead by as many as 10 points en route to take the set, 25-18, and to win the match, 3-0.

 

Point finished the three-set match with 44 kills and 25 attack errors in 116 total attacks (.164), 40 set assists, 60 digs, and six total team blocks.  Bryan totaled 26 kills with 19 errors in 110 total attacks (.064), 23 set assists, 43 digs and five total team blocks.

 

Sophomore right-side hitter Charlotte Havrisik (Riverside, CA) finished with a match-high 13 kills, senior middle blocker Suheily Colon-Rodriguez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) added 10 kills and five digs, and junior outside hitter Jordan Bemis (Middleburg, FL) totaled seven kills and two digs. Freshman outside hitter Te'a Owens (Rossville, GA) recorded six kills with three digs and junior middle blocker Tatiana Dale (Kenner, LA) had four kills and two digs.

 

Sophomore setter Julia Felix (New Orleans, LA) totaled a match-high 24 set assists and three digs, and freshman setter Kaitlyn Hawke (Highland, MI) added 11 set assists and five digs.

 

Defensively, senior libero Gabriana Nichols (Pecos, TX) finished with a match-high 15 digs, had three set assists and went a perfect 21-for-21 in service receptions, sophomore defensive specialist Tessa Burns (Columbus, GA) finished with 11 digs and went a perfect 15-for-15 in service receptions, and sophomore defensive specialist Cameron Roby (Warner Robins, GA) contributed eleven digs.

 

NEXT MATCH:  Coached by Amanda Jones, the Skyhawks host Tennessee Wesleyan University (5-14; 1-8 AAC) for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match, Saturday morning, October 7, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time in West Point Park Gymnasium.  Point plays a showdown match against Reinhardt University (17-4; 8-1 AAC), Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m., in Waleska, Ga.  A Point victory moves the Skyhawks into a first-place tie in the AAC Southern Division with Reinhardt.
