OXFORD LAKES, Ala. – The Point University women's cross country team placed 12th among 21 schools with 354 points in the White Division (non-NCAA Division I schools) at the 12th Annual Jacksonville State University Invitational at Oxford Lake and Recreation Center in Oxford Lakes, Alabama, Saturday, Sept. 30.


Senior Rebecca Guadiana (Oak View, CA) finished 19th among 181 total runners and 15th in the scoring with her season-best time of 19:39.30 over the 5000-meter course.  Saturday's time is the 15th-best time ever recorded by a Point female cross country runner.  Guadiana is a three-time All-Conference selection and a three-time NAIA National Meet qualifier and owns the three-best times in Skyhawks cross country history on 5000-meter cross country course with a personal best of 18:40.07, set during 2014, her freshman season.


Emory University of Atlanta easily won the White Division with just 19 points and placed its top seven runners among the first 10 finishers.  Gabrielle Stravach from Emory earned first-place honors with a time of 18:03.10, and her time also would have won the Red Division (NCAA Division I schools) race by 22 seconds.


Blue Mountain College (Miss.) placed second as a team with 91 points with four runners in the top 20, and Tennessee Wesleyan from the Appalachian Athletics Conference (AAC) finished just four points behind with 95, with four runners in the top 25.  Spring Hill University (Ala.) ranked fourth with 155 points with its top four runners finishing between places 21 through 38  Valdosta State ran fifth with 165 and had the second-place individual finisher, Tyra Holloway, who covered the 5000-meter course in 18:33.00.


Point finished 12th among 21 teams with Guadiana leading the way with a top 15 finish in the scoring.  Senior Shelby Garritson (Fullerton, CA) ran a season-best time of 22:30.70 and placed 99th overall and 73rd in the scoring, and sophomore Ashley Kaeser (Rincon, GA) finished 114th overall and 84th in the scoring with a season-best time of 23:35.80.  Sophomore Abby Contreras (Peachtree City, GA) placed 123rd overall and 90th in the scoring with a season-best time of 24:18.80, and sophomore Amanda Dalton (Melbourne, FL) finished 125th overall and 92nd in the scoring with a season-best time of 24:24.30.


NEXT MEET:  Coached by Zachery Tyler, Point's women's cross country team takes the next two weeks off racing and begins preparations for the Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina at Beaufort in Hardeeville, S.C., Saturday, Oct. 21, and the Appalachian Athletics Conference Championships, Saturday, Nov. 4, hosted by Reinhardt University in Canton, Ga.
