OXFORD LAKES, Ala. – The Point University men's cross country team placed 14th among 20 schools with 389 points in the White Division (non-NCAA Division I school) at the 12th Annual Jacksonville State University Invitational at Oxford Lake and Recreation Center in Oxford Lakes, Alabama, Saturday, Sept. 30.

 

Emory University (Ga.) topped the field with just 15 points and scored places one through five plus places seven and eight.  Three unattached runners crossed the finish line within 14 seconds of each other and 18 seconds before the first Emory runner, Marty Pimentel, who placed fourth overall and first in the scoring with a time of 26:09.80 over the 8000-meter course.

 

The actual winner of the White Division was Michael Coccia with a time of 25:37.10, and the winner of the Red Division (Division I schools was Farah Abdulkarim from Morehead State (Ky.) with a time of 25:00.30, and the team winner of the Red Division was Morehead State with 20 points.

 

Tennessee Wesleyan University, an Appalachian Athletics Conference rival of Point's, placed second as a team with 95 points with two runners among the top 11 and four runners among the top 23 in the scoring.  William Carey University (Miss.) placed third with 104 with two runners among the top 12 and four among the top 26.  Piedmont College (Ga.) finished fourth with 126 and placed its five scorers between places 17 and 32.  Valdosta State (Ga.) placed fifth with 152.

 

Junior Tyler Agan (Locust Grove, GA) accomplished his 8000-meter season best time (29:29.10) and placed 84th of 183 runners overall and 52nd in the scoring.  Senior Brayton Gineris (McDonough, GA) also finished with his season-best time of 30:09.10 and placed 93rd

overall and 60th in the scoring.

 

Freshman Nico Seaton (Cumming, GA) placed 129th overall and 91st in the scoring with a time of 32:44.60, and sophomore Gage Brasher (Ashland, AL) followed in 130th place overall and 92nd in the scoring with a time of 32:52.00, his season-best time for the 8000-meter distance.  Sophomore Drew Duram (LaGrange, GA) crossed the line close behind in 132nd place overall and 94th place in the scoring with a season-best time of 33:13.10, and senior Clay Cofer (McDonough, GA) was Point's first displacer in 140th place overall and 101st in the scoring with a season-best time of 34:25.40.

 

Freshman Luis Garcia (Rincon, GA) was Point's second displacer with a 143rd place finish overall and a 104th place in the scoring and ran his season-best time of 34:42.00.  Senior Roberto Carrizosa (Phoenix, AZ) finished 160th with a time of 37:31.20.

 

NEXT MEET:  Coached by Zachery Tyler, Point's men's cross country team takes the next two weeks off racing and begins preparations for the Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina at Beaufort in Hardeeville, S.C., Saturday, Oct. 21, and the Appalachian Athletics Conference Championships, Saturday, Nov. 4, hosted by Reinhardt University in Canton, Ga.
