BARBOURVILLE, KY   North Division co-leader Union College (14-4; 4-0 AAC) won sets one, three and four and defeated Point University (5-5; 1-2 AAC), 3-1, in September 16 Appalachian Athletics Conference inter-division volleyball action in Barbourville, Ky.  The Bulldogs won set one, 25-16, but Point rebounded to win set two, 25-21 before Union won sets three and four, 25-13 and 25-19.

 

The Skyhawks biggest lead at any point during the four-set match was four points in set two, 24-20, in a 25-21 victory.  Point trailed 17-13 before making its winning comeback.  In set one, Union's biggest lead was its 25-16 margin at the end of the set, and the Bulldogs went ahead 19-5 in set three on their way to a 25-13 win.  Neither team led by more than three points in set four until Union went from a 22-19 advantage to a 25-19 victory.

 

Senior right-side hitter Suheily Colon-Rodriguez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) led Point offensively with nine kills and also recorded six digs and two assisted blocks and went 8-for-8 in service receptions.  Freshman outside hitter Te'a Owens (Rossville, GA) added seven kills and went 11-for-12 in service receptions, and junior middle blocker Tatiana Dale (Kenner, LA) and sophomore right-side hitter Charlotte Havrisik (Riverside, CA) each finished with six kills and three assisted blocks.  Junior outside hitter Jordan Bemis (Middleburg, FL) added three kills, five digs, one solo block and was 10-for-11 in successful opponent service receptions.

 

Sophomore setter Julia Felix (New Orleans, LA) had three kills, 18 assists, one service ace, and six digs, and freshman Kaitlyn Hawke (Highland, MI) set 12 assists and had 4 digs and went 8-for-9 in service receptions.

 

Defensively, senior libero Gabriana Nichols (Pecos, TX) led the team with 12 digs and was 22-for-24 in service receptions, and sophomore defensive specialist Cameron Roby (Warner Robins, GA) recorded five digs and went 7-for-8 in service receptions.

 

NEXT MATCHES:  Coached by Amanda Jones, the Skyhawks host AAC South Division foe Allen University (4-4; 0-3 AAC)), Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 p.m.; Milligan College (4-9; 2-2 AAC) from the North Division, Friday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m.; and Montreat College (7-6; 4-0 AAC), the North Division co-leader with Union, Saturday, Sept. 23, at 12 noon, in West Point Park Gymnasium.
