PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Point University (5-0-1) freshman forward Juan Gomez (Malaga, Spain) completed a hat trick, scoring all three of Point's goals in a 3-1 victory at Pensacola Christian College (2-1-0), in Saturday, Sept. 9 non-conference intercollegiate men's soccer action on Eagle Field in Pensacola, Fla.  The Skyhawks outshot the Eagles overall, 16-8, and in shots on goal, 13-5.  With the win, the Skyhawks' winning streak currently sits at four matches.

       

Point kicked off the scoring at 11:08 in the first half, when Gomez received a through pass from senior forward Juan Domingo (Alto, GA), allowing him to find the back of the net for the first time in the match and giving the Skyhawks an early 1-0 lead.

 

Pensacola Christian answered back with a goal off the foot of forward Nick Standridge to tie the match 1-1 at 29:58, and the score remained tied going into halftime.

 

Point did not waste time coming out of halftime, with Gomez netting his second goal of the match at 48:10, and he completed the hat trick with his third goal of the contest at 85:35 on an assist from sophomore midfielder Christian Howell (Smiths Station, AL), giving the Skyhawks a two-goal advantage that they would go on to win by, 3-1.

 

Point's junior goalkeeper Ned Avies (Rochester, NY) allowed one goal and made four saves, and Pensacola Christian goalie Taylor Jensen allowed three goals and made 10 saves.

 

NEXT MATCH:  Coached by Jonathan Lenarz, the Skyhawks host 15th-ranked Union College (Ky.) for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match, Saturday, Sept. 16, at 12 p.m. eastern time, at River Bowl Stadium in West Point, Ga.
