MACON, Ga. – The Point University women's cross country team placed second among six schools with 62 points at the Middle Georgia State University Invitational at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course in Macon, Ga., Saturday, Sept. 9.

 

Point senior runner Rebecca Guadiana (Oak View, CA) finished first among 48 total runners with a season-best time of 20:43.9 over the 5000-meter course.  Guadiana, a three-time All-Conference runner and a three-time NAIA National Meet qualifier, crossed the line 16.7 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Ashleigh Owens from Georgia Southwestern State University.

 

Emory University of Oxford (Ga.) placed its top five runners among the first 13 in the race, including places three, four and five, and totaled 35 points.  Point placed its five scoring runners among the first 21 and finished second with 62, six points ahead of Georgia Southwestern with 68.  Georgia Military College placed fourth with 83 points, and Clark Atlanta University finished fifth with 94.  Wesleyan College (Ga.) placed sixth with 171.

 

Point senior Shelby Garritson (Fullerton, CA) ran a time of 23:19.9, finishing in eighth place, and sophomore Amanda Dalton (Melbourne, Fla.) finished 14th in the scoring and 17th overall with a time of 24:41.1.  Sophomore Ashley Kaeser (Rincon, GA) finished 18th in the scoring and 21st overall with a time of 25:05.2 and sophomore Abby Contreras (Peachtree City, Ga.) placed 25th overall and 21st in the scoring with a time of 25:52.8 over the 5000-meter course.  Senior Celly Ruiz (Ontario, Calif.) placed 38th in the field and 32nd in the scoring with a time of 29:28.2.

 

NEXT MEET:  Coached by Zachery Tyler, Point races next at the University of North Georgia Invitational in Dahlonega, Ga., Saturday, Sept. 16.  The women's race begins at 8:15 a.m., and the men's event begins at approximately 9 a.m.
