LEBANON, Tenn. – Point University (2-3) was defeated by #16 Cumberland University (Tenn.) (2-2), 5-1, in Saturday, Sept. 9 non-conference intercollegiate women's soccer action at Lindsey Donnell Stadium in Lebanon, Tenn.  The Phoenix outshot the Skyhawks, 21-3 and sophomore midfielder Sabria Marquez (Savannah, GA) recorded Point's only shot on goal of the match when she connected for a goal at 51:56, early in the second half.

 

The 16th-ranked Phoenix got off to an early lead with a goal by forward Savannah Moreland at 7:54, and Cumberland held a 2-0 advantage over the Skyhawks going into halftime after a late first-half goal at 44:55 by midfielder Mariah Aplin.  Cumberland increased its lead to 3-0 in the second half with a goal at 50:29 by midfielder Rebecca Holloway.

 

Point cut into the Phoenix lead one minute later when Sabria Marquez received a pass from senior midfielder Madison Plemons (Columbus, GA) and found the back of the net at 51:56 to make the score 3-1.  Marquez leads Point with five goals in five matches this season.  The Skyhawks would not find the back of the net again as Cumberland would add two more goals at 71:39 and 83:27 to secure a victory over Point, 5-1.

 

Point's junior goalkeeper Rachel Ash (Douglasville, GA) allowed five goals and made four saves, and Cumberland junior goalie Ashley Kambeitz allowed just one goal on the Skyhawks' only shot on goal attempt of the match.
