COLUMBIA, Ky.    The Point University women's golf team finished fourth among 10 schools at the 2017 Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raider Women's Golf Fall Kickoff, Sept. 4-5, in Columbia, Kentucky.  Point totaled 329 strokes among its four top golfers on day one and improved to 321 on day two for a two-day total of 650, eight strokes behind third-place Campbellsville University (Ky.) which totaled 642 strokes.  Senior All-American Courtney Lowery(Greenville, GA) began her fall season with a second-place finish, just two strokes behind the medalist.

 

Lindsey Wilson College, which ranks 25th in the NAIA National Pre-season Coaches' poll, won the team title of its own event, totaling 309 on Monday and 302 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 611 (+35).  Indiana Tech finished second with a two-day total of 623 (+47).  After Campbellsville and Point, Midway University (Ky.) placed fifth with a total of 660 (+84), and Asbury University (Ky.) placed sixth with 666 (+90).  Georgetown College (Ky.) finished seventh with 673 (+97).

 

Lowery totaled 145 strokes, one over par for the tournament and placed second among a field of 55 golfers in the 36-hole event on the par 72, 5864-yard course.  Lowery finished just two strokes off the pace set by medalist Tara Rodenhurst from Lindsey Wilson, who totaled 143 strokes (-1).  Lowery shot a 75 and stood in fourth place on Monday, and fired a two-under par 70 on Tuesday and moved up to second place in the standings.  She also tied for the tournament lead with seven birdies and tied for seventh with 21 par holes.  She led the tournament in scoring on par 5 holes with an average of 4.70 strokes and wound up 3-under par on such holes.

 

Rodenhurst finished her Monday round with a total of 74, good for third place, and moved up to the individual lead with a tournament-best 69 on Tuesday.  Katie Giant and Loren Kreider from Indiana Tech both shot identical rounds of 73 on Monday and 78 on Tuesday for two-day totals of 151 (+7).  Rounding out the top six places were Shayna Cockrill and Courtney Vincent from Lindsey Wilson College, each with tournament totals of 152 (+8).

 

Coached by Angela Ormsby, Point also was represented by freshman Courtney Lewis (Grantville, Ga.), who tied for 17th place with rounds of 84 on Monday and 79 on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 163 (+19), and freshman Ana Thorne (Warner Robins, Ga.), who tied for 18th with rounds of 84 and 80 for a total of 164 (+20).  Senior Ashley Stamper (McDonough, GA) placed 39th with 18-hole rounds of 86 and 92 for a two-day total of 178 (+34).  Junior Carey Smith (McDonough, GA) shot rounds of 106 and 101 for a two-day total of 207.
