WEST POINT, Ga.    Entering his fourth season as head coach, Chad Simpson and the Skyhawk women's tennis team are looking to improve after finishing the 2016 season with a 6-13 overall record and a 3-5 record in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Skyhawks will face four teams ranked in the top 34 this season and will play 19 dual matches during their 2017-18 campaign.  Point will also make its annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. from March 5-8, where they will face Spring Arbor University, March 6 and Lawrence Technological University, March 7.

"This schedule will give us a few matches to build confidence and a few to take on a difficult challenge so we can make a run into the top half of our conference," said coach Simpson, "These women are excited to hit the court to start competing.  We have a lot of talent here at Point, and Coach Jeri Stewart and I will look to add more mental toughness, tactical awareness, and training so we can the fittest team possible."

The Skyhawks will look to senior Luz Padilla (Tucuman, Argentina), her doubles partner, sophomore Katie Larck (Champaign, IL), and returners, junior Martina Belloni (Palamos, Spain) and sophomore Eman Cohen (Columbus, GA) to lead the way for team this season.  In total, Point returns one senior, one junior, and two sophomores with two incoming freshmen.

Padilla led the Skyhawks last season with ten singles wins in twenty-seven matches and was 9-14 in doubles sets with her partner Larck, who finished last season with a 5-15 singles record.  Belloni was 4-6 last season in singles matches and Cohen posted a 9-16 singles record as a freshman a season ago.

Point begins its season at the Huntingdon College Invitational, Sept. 15-17 at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala.  The Skyhawks begin their home schedule when they host Brewton-Parker College on Saturday, Feb. 3, and AAC conference play begins when Point hosts Milligan on Friday, Feb. 16.
