WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University head tennis coach Chad Simpson has added Jeri Stewart to serve as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach.

"Coach Stewart has a wealth of experience at the elite junior level," stated Simpson, "and is well connected around the state of Georgia, and most importantly has a heart for the Lord and to serve our student-athletes.  I am blessed to add a coach with her expertise to help guide our students on and off the court."

Since 2000, Jeri has owned and operated the J. Stewart Tennis Academy in Columbus, Georgia.  She has coached numerous junior players who have gone on to play at every level of college tennis.  The most notable was Christian Garay, a player who was ranked number one in the United States in the 12's division, and was also part of the Davis Cup and Junior David Cup team for Puerto Rico.  Coach Stewart also mentored two coaches at her academy that went on to start their own academies.

Coach Stewart played collegiate tennis at the University of Georgia in 1978 where she received a B.S. in Health and Education.  Jeri has been a certified Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) pro since 2000 and has added the following certifications: USTA High Performance coach, USTA certified Mental Coach, and specialist in competitive player development (USTA, USPTA).

Jeri and her husband served for four years on the staff of Campus Crusades for Christ Ministries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as well as creating and continuing to develop an international tennis ministry in the African nation of Zimbabwe, where she has made seven trips to teach tennis and to mentor others in teaching tennis.

When asked about the opportunity to coach and mentor at Point University, Coach Stewart said, "It has been a lifelong passion of mine to mentor and encourage others.  Also having a love for tennis, I am excited to be able to combine the two by coaching tennis in a team atmosphere at Point University."
