Shelby Beverly is Point's second women's lacrosse coach in its four-year WLAX history

WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University proudly announces the hiring of Shelby Beverly as its new women's lacrosse head coach.  She becomes the second head women's lacrosse coach in the four-year history of Point's program.  A Woodstock, Ga. native, Beverly was a five-year member of the Shorter University women's lacrosse program and served as a team captain for three seasons.  She leaves Shorter as its all-time leader in goals (121), second all-time in points (154), fourth all-time in assists (33), and was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week twice during her final season in 2017.


"I am extremely excited about adding Shelby to the Skyhawk coaching staff," commented Athletic Director Alan Wilson, "She is passionate about the game of lacrosse and I have no doubt that after her outstanding career at Shorter, she will carry Point University's mission of educating student-athletes for Christ-centered service both on and off the field."


During her playing career with the Hawks,Beverlywon the National Women's Lacrosse League (NWLL) Rookie of the Year Award following her freshman season and was also named to the All-Conference freshman team. Beverlywon Offensive Player of the Year following her sophomore campaign in 2014, and after suffering a knee injury that kept her from playing nearly all of her senior season, she received a medical redshirt and returned to play as a graduate student.  She won Offensive Player of the Year honors for a second time after scoring 43 goals, 24 assists and 67 points in 2017..


Off the field,Beverlywas a member of the Dean's List during the 2014-15 academic year and was selected to the Gulf South All-Academic team following the 2017 season.  Beverlygraduated from Shorter University in 2016 with an undergrad degree in Sports Management, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration with a Sports Management concentration from Shorter University and is one class away from graduation.


Beverlysaid of her hiring, "I first want to thank Athletic Director Alan Wilson for giving me the opportunity to lead the Point University women's lacrosse team.  Point has a very strong sense of community that is founded on faith, and I cannot wait to be an active part of that community.  I believe that Point athletics are headed in a great direction, and I have a very passionate outlook about the future and vision for this team.  Many exciting things are in store and I cannot wait to get started."
