WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University softball players Mikayla Owen (SR/Bradenton, Fla.) and Cassandra Pesce (SR/Tampa, Fla.) have been named to the 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athlete Team by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).  A total of 395 NAIA softball student-athletes earned selection to the list.


In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or Sports Information Director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved an academic standing of junior or higher.


A two-year member of the Skyhawk softball team, Owen played in 29 games this season; starting 28, and finished the year with a .281 batting average, sixteen hits, scored 15 runs, slugged two home runs, and had an on-base percentage of .364.  Pesce has been a member of Point's softball team for three seasons, and recorded two hits, three RBI and walked four times in 10 games this season.
