WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University women's soccer coach Randy Douglas has added forward Vanessa Lara from Northwest Whitfield County High School in Tunnel Hill, Ga., to his 2017 squad.  Lara signed with Point at a ceremony held May 25, at Northwest Whitfield County High School.

Coach Douglas commented on the newest addition to Point University's women's soccer program, "Filling the void left when Celly Ruiz (Co-Conference Player of the Year and All-NAIA All-America honorable mention forward) finished her career with us was the highest priority going into 2017.  I feel Vanessa will be able to help fill that void as she has proven to be a prolific scorer during her high school career.  She had a great workout when she came on her visit and fit in well with the current players."

Lara played four years of high school varsity soccer and also played club soccer for the Northwest Georgia Belles.  She played center midfielder for her high school team but will be asked to play in an attacking role for Point, according to Coach Douglas. Lara accounted for 25 goals and 14 assists during her senior season. The Dalton Citizen named her to the All-Area first team for two consecutive seasons, and she was strongly considered for Area Player of the Year during her senior year.  Coached by David Huynh, the Bruins went 25-10-4 overall and 12-1 in Regional games during Lara's junior and senior seasons in 2016 and 2017.

Lara explained why she chose Point University: "The reason why I chose to go to Point University is because I want to continue with my academics and athletic career.  I believe that going there will prepare me for the future along with helping me get closer to God."
