SILVIS, Ill. – The Point University men's golf team has been cut from the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships after playing just two rounds at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.  The Skyhawks earned a bid to compete in the tournament after winning the NAIA-AAC Direct Qualifier at Governor's Towne Club in Acworth, Ga., April 24-25.

Originally, the tournament was supposed to cut the field from 29 teams to 15 after three rounds, but according to the NAIA website, "Inclement weather forced delays and an ultimate postponement of Wednesday's second round, and with potential weather issues looming Friday, the tournament was cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals plus ties after the completion of the second round Thursday morning."

Point finished the first round of the tournament a combined 33 strokes over par, good for 22nd place in the team standings at the end of day one.  The Skyhawks combined to finish round two 41 strokes over par and sat in 25th place before inclement weather postponed the tournament late Wednesday night, causing Point to miss the newly implemented cut, thus eliminating them from the NAIA Championships earlier than scheduled.

The team finished the tournament a combined 74 strokes over par, totaling 642 strokes on the par 71 golf course.  Joao Magalhaes (SO/Porto, Portugal) and Connor Brown (SR/Bogart, GA) were Point's top golfers, both finishing 18 strokes over par.  Lance Daniel (SR/Manchester, GA) and AAC Golfer of the Year Francisco de Oliveira (JR/Algarve, Portugal) both finished 19 strokes over par, and Maddux Lytle (JR/Newnan, GA) finished 30 strokes over par.
