Cathy Slusher (5) and Grace Beardsley (48) Named to NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete Team

WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University women's lacrosse players Grace Beardsley (JR/St. Augustine, FL) and Cathy Slusher (JR/St. Augustine, FL) have been named to the 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete team by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).  A total of 62 NAIA women's lacrosse student-athletes earned selection to the list.


In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or Sports Information Director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved an academic standing of junior or higher.


Beardsley and Slusher also earned Appalachian Athletics Conference All-Academic Team honors.  Beardsley was named to the All-AAC second team after scoring 18 goals and a team-high 11 assists for 29 points and scooping up 40 ground balls and causing 14 opponent turnovers. 


Slusher received an AAC Champions of Character Award which is presented to a student-athlete from each of the nine women's lacrosse-playing conference members, who best demonstrates the NAIA Champions of Character core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.  Slusher played in all 18 of Point's matches and totaled 18 goals and four assists for 22 points and 28 ground balls.
