AAC Pitcher of the Week for May 1: Ty Plumley, Point University

WEST POINT, Ga. – Senior left-hander Ty Plumley (Locust Grove, GA) from Point University has won Appalachian Athletics Conference Pitcher of the Week recognition for the week of April 23-29, 2017.


Plumley becomes the second Skyhawks' pitcher and third Point player to receive an AAC Player of the Week Award this season.  Senior right-handed pitcher Payne Kosobucki (Midland, GA) was named Pitcher of the Week for March 19-25, and catcher Juan Reyes (Santo Domingo, Dom. Rep.) won Player of the Week honors for April 16-22.


Plumley improved his season record to 5-3 and his AAC record to 5-2 with a 9-1 victory over St. Andrews.  Plumley struck out five and walked none and allowed five hits and one run in six innings of work against the Knights.  Plumley has struck out 49 and walked 24 batters and has a 4.52 earned-run average in 67-2/3 innings of work in 13 starts.


In nine AAC starts, Plumley has won his last three starts and is 5-2 with a 3.66 ERA, one shut and one complete game and has struck out 36 strikeouts and walked just 14 in 46-2.3 innings pitched.

Point won all four of its games last week, including a three-game conference sweep at St. Andrews University, and improved its season records to 32-19 overall and 20-7 in conference.  The Skyhawks clinched a tie for first place in the AAC standings and are the number two seed for the AAC Championships which will be played, May 3-6, in Kingsport, Tenn.
