KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Point University (31-22) was defeated by Union College (Ky.) (29-27), 7-3, in Appalachian Athletic Conference postseason softball action on Friday, April 28, in Kingsport, Tenn.  With the loss, Point has been eliminated from the tournament.


Point got off to a quick start, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.  The first run was scored by catcher Brooke Williams (JR/Valley, AL) who came home safely on a throwing error by the Bulldogs' defense, and leftfielder Leslie Hinkle (SR/Lafayette, AL) singled home centerfielder Amber Anderson (SR/Hazel Green, AL) with one out.


The Skyhawks added one run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single off the bat of Williams, plating third baseman Madyson Brown (JR/Valley, AL) and giving Point a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.


Union took its first lead in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on seven hits.  The Bulldogs would go on to add one run in each the sixth and seventh innings and held the Skyhawks scoreless for the remainder of the game on their way to securing a victory over Point in an elimination game, 7-3.


Point starter Allie Beilstein (FR/Montgomery, AL) (14-10) took the loss and allowed five hits, four runs, no walks, and struck out two in four total innings in the circle.  Right-hander Ryan Simpson (SO/Cusseta, AL) pitched three innings and allowed eight hits, three runs; two earned, no walks, and struck out two in three innings.


Williams extended her hitting streak to 18 games and finished the contest with two hits and scored one run, and Hinkle added two hits and one RBI.  Shortstop Sadie Proctor (FR/Newnan, GA), designated player Ariana Boutwell (SO/Rehobeth, AL), and Anderson each added one hit.
