KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Point University (30-21) was defeated by Tennessee Wesleyan University (21-14), 3-2, in Appalachian Athletic Conference postseason softball action on Wednesday, April 26, in Kingsport, Tenn.  With the loss, Point now enters the loser's bracket and will play an elimination game Thursday, April 27 at 11 a.m. 

    

Point starting pitcher Ryan Simpson (SO/Cusseta, AL) (15-11) took the loss and pitched four innings, allowing four hits, three runs, one walk, and struck out one batter.  Right-hander Allie Beilstein (FR/Montgomery, AL) replaced Simpson in the bottom of the fifth inning and allowed one hit, no runs and struck out three in two innings pitched.  TWU starter Rachel Matthews (10-5) earned her tenth win of the season and allowed four hits, two runs, one walk, and struck out three in six innings of work.  Reliever Hannah Manley pitched the final inning and allowed one hit, one walk and struck out three.

 

Point took a one-run lead in the top of third inning on a two-out RBI single off the bat of shortstop Sadie Proctor (FR/Newnan, GA), scoring rightfielder Mikayla Owen (SR/Bradenton, FL) who reached on a walk earlier in the inning.

 

TWU responded to Point's run in the bottom half of the third, scoring three runs on three hits with two outs to take a 3-1 lead into the fourth inning.  The Skyhawks added their final run of the contest in the top of the fifth on an RBI ground out and had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh inning down one run, but Point's final batter of the game struck out looking, allowing TWU to earn the win, 3-2.

 

Proctor finished the contest with one hit and one RBI, centerfielder Amber Anderson (SR/Hazel Green, AL) added one RBI, and Owen, catcher Brooke Williams (JR/Valley, AL), leftfielder Leslie Hinkle (SR/Lafayette, AL), and second baseman Tomi Kate O'Neal (SR/Birmingham, AL) each had one hit.

 

NEXT GAME:  Coached by Jennifer Tyler, the Skyhawks will face St. Andrews University (17-30) in an elimination game at Brickyard Ball Fields on Thursday, April 27 at 11 a.m.  Point was 2-0 vs. the Knights during the regular season.
