WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University men's swimming coach Kaymee Kelly has added A.J. Ayres from Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Florida to her 2017-18 squad.

"A.J. is a great fit for our program and our university," commented Coach Kelly.  "I know he will make a difference not only in the pool and classroom but also the community. A.J. is a real asset and will make an impact on the conference and national level."

Son of Phil and Stefanie Ayres of Longwood, Florida, A.J. swam butterfly and freestyle races for his high school swimming team, coached by Paige Derner, and also swims for the Trinity Prep Aquatics team.  Coach Kelly also recently signed Allie Murphy from Lake Mary High School.  He placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle at the 2016 FHSAA Class 4-A District 2 Championships and eighth in the 50-yard freestyle and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle at the 2016 FHSAA Class-4-A Region 1 Championships.

Ayres also is active in service outside of his high school and sport.  He has participated in the Alpha Leadership Program at Lake Aurora Camp and has served as a MaxLife Counselor and is a Student Ministry Leader at St. Peter's Church.

Ayres commented on why he chose Point as the place where he will continue his education and competitive swimming career, "I chose Point University because the community was very inviting.  The facilities are excellent, and the coach and teammates are friendly.  I look forward to being part of the community and the Point swim team."
