WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University women's swimming coach Kaymee Kelly has added Allie Murphy from Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Florida to her 2017-18 squad.

"Allie is a real go-getter and will bring a lot to the team," commented Coach Kelly.  "She is highly motivated and will help bring the team to new levels in conference and national competitions.  We are excited for the future of our program."

Daughter of David and Laura Murphy of Lake Mary, Florida, Allie swims sprint freestyle and breaststroke for her high school swimming team, which is coached by Paige Derner, and is a teammate of another Point recruit, A.J. Ayers.  Her brother, David Murphy, Jr., currently swims for the University of Wyoming.

Murphy won her team's Coaches Award during her senior season.  She placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke, ninth in the 50-yard freestyle and along with three teammates also placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay at the 2016 FHSAA Class 4-A District 2 Championships and placed 17th in the 50-yard freestyle and 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard medley relay at the 2016 FHSAA Class 4-A Region 1 Championships.  She also qualified for the 2016 FHSAA Class 4-A State Championships in the 200-yard medley relay.

As a junior in 2015, Murphy placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle at the FHSAA Class 4-A District 2 Championships and 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 18th in the 100-yard freestyle at the FHSAA Class 4-A Region 1 Championships.  She also qualified for the 2014 and 2015 Georgia State Championship meets in three events and won the 2015 Georgia championship in the 50-yard freestyle.

She also attended Southland Academy in Americus, Georgia for her freshman and sophomore years and served as swimming team captain both seasons.  She holds Southland Academy's school records in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle events.

Murphy also is active in service to her church and her community.  She has taught swimming lessons to at-risk youth through the city's Parks and Recreation Department and served as assistant coach for 5-8 year old swimmers with the Americus (Ga.) Blue Tide swim team.  She also has fundraised and participated in the local Relay for Life, and is a young group member and participated in Student Life with First Baptist Church in Americus.

Murphy commented on why she chose Point as the place where she will continue her education and competitive swimming career, "I decided to commit to Point University because it has the combination of smaller southern town and a close team atmosphere.  I am excited to swim for Coach Kelly and can't wait to become a Skyhawk!"
