WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University (28-18) totaled 18 runs, 4 walks and 23 hits, including four doubles and one home run, and swept its non-conference doubleheader from Judson College (18-22), 8-0 in six innings and 10-0 in five innings, Wednesday, April 12, on West Point Park Field in West Point, Ga.

GAME ONE:  Both teams played two full innings of scoreless softball, but Point's bats came alive in the third inning and they would go on to score in each of the remaining four innings enroute to a six-inning win in game one of Wednesday's twinbill with Judson.

Point starting pitcher Ryan Simpson (SO/Cusseta, AL) won her fourth consecutive game and third consecutive shutout and improved her record to 14-9 on the year and allowed two hits, two walks and struck out five in a complete-game shutout of the visiting Eagles.  She now has struck out 24 batters and walked just five in her last 27-1/3 innings pitched and has not allowed a run during that stretch.

The Skyhawks opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the third.  Leftfielder Leslie Hinkle (SR/Lafayette, AL) led off the bottom of the inning with a single to left, and the next batter, second baseman Tomi Kate O'Neal (SR/Birmingham, AL) moved Hinkle to second on a bunt single.  After third baseman Madyson Brown (JR/Valley, AL) hit an infield single to load the bases with no outs, pinch-hitter Micah Simmons (JR/Darien, GA) singled home Hinkle and O'Neal to give Point a 2-0 lead.  First baseman Shea Pendley (SO/Chatsworth, GA) brought home Brown on a sacrifice fly to add to their two-run advantage, and the Skyhawks entered the fourth inning with the lead, 3-0.

Point added one run in both the fourth and fifth innings and led 5-0 going into the sixth inning.  In the bottom of the sixth, Pendley singled home shortstop Sadie Proctor (FR/Newnan, GA) who had doubled earlier in the inning, and with two outs, catcher Brooke Williams (JR/Valley, AL) hit a walk-off inside-the-park home run to give Point the eighth run it needed to end the game early, taking game one, 8-0 in six innings.

Williams, Pendley, and Simmons each finished game one with one hit and two RBI,  Proctor finished with two hits and one RBI, and rightfielder Mikayla Owen (SR/Bradenton, FL) added one hit and one RBI.

GAME TWO:  The Skyhawks held the Eagles scoreless and scored two runs in the first, six in the second, and two in the third inning on their way to their second shutout win of the day at home against Judson.

Pendley finished with three hits, three RBI, giving her 30 for the season, and scored one run, centerfielder Amber Anderson (SR/Hazel Green, AL) added two hits, two RBI and scored three runs, and Proctor contributed two hits and scored three runs.  Simmons also had a hit and drove in a run in game two, giving her three RBI in the two games.  In all, nine different Skyhawks finished with at least one hit on their way to a sweep of Judson, winning the second game of the day's twinbill in five innings, 10-0.

Point starter Allie Beilstein (FR/Montgomery, AL) (12-8) pitched three innings and allowed two hits, one walk, and struck out one.  Reliever Kelsey Davis (FR/Valley, AL) finished the game, going two perfect innings and striking out two batters.

NEXT GAMES:  Coached by Jennifer Tyler, the Skyhawks host an Appalachian Athletics Conference home doubleheader against Columbia College (S.C.), Friday, April 14, at 2 p.m.
