VALLEY, Ala. – Point University men's tennis (12-8; 4-3 AAC) won at number two doubles and numbers two, three and five singles but fell one match short of defeating first-place Reinhardt University (10-5; 7-0 AAC), which ranks number 15 in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' poll.  Reinhardt edged the Skyhawks, 5-4, in Monday, April 10 Appalachian Athletics Conference action at the Sportsplex in Valley, Ala.

The Skyhawks finish the conference season in fourth place in the AAC standings behind 15th–ranked Reinhardt University (10-5; 7-0 AAC); SCAD-Atlanta (9-3; 6-1 AAC), which defeated Point, 7-2, April 7; and 18th-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan (10-2; 5-2 AAC), which defeated Point, 6-3, on March 24.  Point plays one more dual match this season on April 12, at Shorter University (Ga.).

Head coach Chad Simpson commented, "We are so grateful for our seniors – Rafa (Hewett), Danny (Blanchard), and Alonso (Trevizo) – who have laid a strong foundation.  In the fourth year of our program, Point is on the national radar and is right there with a top 15 team in the country.  This loss will aid us in our run to bring Point a conference title and national championship berth."

Rafa Hewett (SR/Lewiston, ID) and number one doubles partner, Daniel Blanchard (SR/Peachtree City, GA) lost for the first time in conference play at number one doubles, 8-3, against Emory DeLoach and Fabio Pereira from Reinhardt.  Hewett and Blanchard are 14-3 together in doubles and 6-1 in conference.

At number two doubles, Asad Siyyid (SO/Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and Steven Tracy (SO/Saint Simons Island, GA) defeated Nikita Hrynov and Brandon Lane, 8-5, cutting Reinhardt's team lead to 2-1 going into singles.  Siyyid and Tracy are 7-5 overall and 4-1 in conference together.

The Skyhawks earned team points at numbers two and three singles with Hewett improving his season record to 19-11 with a straight-set 6-0, 6-2 win over Nicolas Duarte at number two singles, and Blanchard winning his number three singles match over Marcel Fargier, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, which improved his singles record to 13-9 in singles.  Hewett and Blanchard rank number one and two in career doubles victories with 66 and 61 respectively, and also ranked first and second in career singles wins with 60 and 50 respectively.

Point's fourth point was provided by Steven Tracy (13-15; 4-3 AAC) at number five singles.  Tracy lost set one, 6-3, but rallied for a 6-2 win in set two and a 10-7 super-set in set three against Hrynov.

At number three doubles, Kyle Howell (SO/Guyton, GA) and Alonso Trevizo (SR/El Paso, TX) lost an 8-4 super-set against Duarte and Fargier.  Howell and Trevizo are 4-5 together and 2-3 in conference.
