WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University pitcher Ryan Simpson (SO/Cussetta, AL) has been named Appalachian Athletics Conference Women's Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 2-8, 2017.  She becomes the first Point pitcher and the second Point player overall to receive the weekly conference award.  Senior centerfielder Amber Anderson (Hazel Green, AL) was named of AAC Player of the Week for Feb. 27-March 4, 2017.


With three wins in four games last week, Point improved its season records to 24-18 overall and 10-8 in conference action.  Simpson improved her season record to 12-9 with a solid 1-0 shutout victory over Union College (Ky.), Friday, April 7.  She struck out 7 Bulldogs, walked none and allowed just 5 singles and retired Union in order in the second, third and sixth innings.


Simpson also pitched the seventh inning of Point's 8-1 win over Concordia-Alabama and struck out all three batters she faced in support of senior pitcher Alycen Johnson (Odenville, AL), who won game one, April 8, by a score of 8-1.  Simpson totaled 10 strikeouts in eight innings for the week and allowed no runs in two appearances.  Simpson owns two AAC shutout victories this season and has a 2.28 ERA with 72 strikeouts and just 16 walks in 120 innings.
