ALBANY, Ga. – The Point University women's tennis team (6-11) swept all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches in an 8-1 non-conference victory at Albany State University (6-16), Sunday, April 2.  The Skyhawks set a school record for most dual-match victories in a season with their sixth win and have two more matches left in the regular season.

 

Coach Chad Simpson commented, ""It was huge for us to pull out wins at numbers two and three doubles in order to build momentum going into singles.  Eman (Cohen), Victoria (White), and Ashley (Lane) showed amazing grit by winning two tough sets in the heat."

 

Eman Cohen (FR/Columbus, GA) picked up her ninth singles win of the season, 6-4, 6-4, over Albany State's Keona Livatt at number four singles, and teamed up with team captain Taylor Navarro (SR/Boerne, TX) for an 8-6 win at number two doubles over Livatt and Samantha Heard.  Navarro earned her 20th career doubles win, extending her own school career record.

 

Victoria White (SR/Kokomo, IN) won her number five singles match over Alexis Ruff, 7-6, 6-4, with a 7-3 tiebreaker win in set one.  White holds the school's career singles victory record with 16.

 

She also joined Ashley Lane (JR/LaGrange, GA) for a 9-7 win over Jordan Foston and Alani Gauthier at number three doubles.  Lane also earned a team point with a 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 win over Gauther at number six singles.

 

Luz Padilla (JR/Tucuman, Argentina) earned her 10h singles victory of the season (10-15), extending her own school single-season record.  Padilla defeated Heard at number one singles, winning set one, 6-1, before Heard retired from the match due to an injury.  Padilla also won 8-1 at number one doubles with Katie Larck (FR/Champaign, IL) against ASU's LaToya Boyd and Torian FostonPadilla and Larck also set a school single-season doubles record with their ninth win of the season.  Larck also won her number two singles match against Torian Foston, 6-1, 6-0, for her fifth win of the season.
