MONTREAT, N.C. – Point University (21-17; 9-7 AAC) defeated Montreat College (10-30; 4-8 AAC), 8-2 and 4-3, in Appalachian Athletics Conference doubleheader softball action, Saturday, April 1, in Montreat, N.C.


GAME ONE:  Starting pitcher Allie Beilstein (FR/Montgomery, AL) improved her record to 9-7 and allowed five hits, two unearned runs and three walks, and struck out four batters in a seven-inning complete game.


Point scored one run in the top of the first inning, five in the fifth, and added two runs in the seventh.  The Skyhawks' first run came in the top of the first inning when shortstop Sadie Proctor (FR/Newnan, GA) reached second base on an error and was knocked in by an RBI double from first baseman Shea Pendley (SO/Chatsworth, GA).


Montreat tied the game 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the third inning, but Point broke open the game and regained the lead with five runs in the top of the fifth.  Aided by three hits, Point scored its first run on an RBI bunt single by catcher Brooke Williams (JR/Valley, AL), and the second came on a bases-loaded walk to centerfielder Amber Anderson (SR/Hazel Green, AL).  The final three runs were plated on a three-run RBI double by second baseman Tomi Kate O'Neal (SR/Birmingham, AL), giving Point a 6-1 lead.


The Skyhawks added their final two runs of the game in the top of the seventh, and Montreat added one more run in the bottom of the inning to make it a six-run final advantage, 8-2.


GAME TWO:  Using four hits and capitalizing on two Montreat errors in the top of the first inning, the Skyhawks scored all four of their runs in the game during the first inning.  The first run came on an RBI single for Anderson and the second run scored on an RBI single by leftfielder Leslie Hinkle (SR/Lafayette, AL),  Williams was forced home on a bases-loaded walk to plate the third run, and the fourth run was scored by Anderson on a Montreat error.  The Cavaliers scored all three of their runs in the game during the bottom of the second inning, but Point held the lead to earn the sweep over Montreat in game two, 4-3.


Point starter Ryan Simpson (SO/Cusseta, AL) (11-9) picked up her eleventh win of the season, allowing nine hits, three runs, two walks, and striking out eight Cavaliers in a complete seven innings pitched.
