VALLEY, Ala. – Point University men's tennis (12-6; 4-1 AAC) swept all nine matches from Montreat College (8-10; 1-4 AAC) at the Sportplex in Valley, Ala., Saturday, April 1.


The Skyhawks are in second place in the Appalachian Athletics Conference (AAC) standings, just ahead of its next opponent, SCAD-Atlanta (7-3; 3-1 AAC), and just behind Reinhardt University (9-5; 6-0 AAC), Point's April 10 opponent at the Sportsplex.


Coach Chad Simpson said, "Point's men's team continues to bring it every time we step on the court.  I was proud of how well they focused and competed today.  We will be well-prepared for Friday's showdown with SCAD-Atlanta."

Co-captains Rafa Hewett (SR/Lewiston, ID) and Daniel Blanchard (SR/Peachtree City, GA), improved their overall season record to 13-2 at number one doubles with an 8-0 victory over Montreat's Leopoldo Lucaro and Grayson Chumley.  Hewett and Blanchard also are undefeated (5-0) in AAC matches.  Hewett also picked up his 61st career doubles win (61-31) in his fourth season as a Skyhawks, a new school record, and Blanchard ranks second with 56 career doubles wins (56-30).


At number two doubles, Asad Siyyid (SO/Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and Steven Tracy (SO/Saint Simons Island, GA) also won 8-0 against Eric Dunlap and Jacob Summerville, and and  at number three doubles, Kyle Howell (SO/Guyton, GA) and Alonso Trevizo (SR/El Paso, TX) won an 8-3 match against David Garcia and Jackson Plyler.


Siyyid, who owns a team-best 15 number one singles victories in dual matches this season, earned Point's fourth team point.  Siyyid, last week's conference and NAIA national Player of the Week, led set one, 3-0, and was awarded a victory by injury default when Lucaro retired from the match due to injury.  Siyyid is 16-8 in singles this season and 14-8 in doubles, including six wins in 10 matches with Tracy at number two doubles.


Hewett improved his season record to 17-10 and his dual-match record to 12-5 with a 6-0, 6-0  number two singles victory over David Garcia from Montreat.  Hewett now owns the school single-season singles victory record with one more win than Siyyid (2016-17) and Blanchard (2014-15) recorded.


Blanchard won 6-4, 6-4 over Plyler at number three singles and is 11-9 this season.  Trevizo (8-4) claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dunlap at number four singles, and Tracy (12-14) defeated Summerville, 6-0, 6-1, at number five singles.  Howell (8-11) defeated Chumley at number six singles, 6-2, 6-4.
