WEST POINT, Ga. – Francisco de Oliveira (JR/Algarve, Portugal) and Courtney Lowery (JR/Greenville, GA) from Point University have been named Appalachian Athletics Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week for the week of March 12-18, 2017.  Both golfers won individual championships at the Point University Skyhawk Golf Invitational, March 13-14, at the Callaway Gardens Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Ga.  The individual championships were the third of the season for each golfer.

De Oliviera won individual medalist honors over 91 other golfers and led Point, ranked number 17 in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, to the men's championship by three strokes over Reinhardt University (Ga.) and by eight strokes over Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.).  De Oliveira was tied with two others after 36 holes of play, each with two-day totals of 146.  De Oliviera won the individual championship on the second sudden-death playoff hole when he sank a 30-foot putt for a birdie.  He totaled six birdies and 22 par scores among his 36 holes.

Lowery won medalist honors in the Skyhawk Women's Golf Invitational with a tournament-best round of 70 for the first day and a 75 for the second day and totaled a one-over par 145 for 36 holes.  She earned six birdies and tied for a tournament best with 24 even-par holes.

Point placed third as a team with its two best team rounds of the season – a 321 on day one and a 324 on day two for a total of 645, 69-over par, on the 5804-yard Lake View Course at Callaway Gardens.  Only Lee University (Tenn.), an NCAA Division II school, and second-place Milligan College (Tenn.) put together better two-day, 36-hole totals than the Skyhawks.
