WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University (18-12; 7-3 AAC) split its doubleheader with Bluefield College (12-4; 1-3 AAC), winning game one, 1-0, and losing game two in extra innings, 5-4, in Saturday, March 18 Appalachian Athletic Conference intercollegiate softball action in West Point, Ga..


GAME ONE:  Both team's offenses were cold during game one, but Point was able to score its one and only run of the game in the bottom of the third.  Catcher Brooke Williams (JR/Valley, AL) led off the inning with a double, and came across to score four batters later when first baseman Shea Pendley (SO/Chatsworth, GA) hit a two-out RBI single to give Point the only run of the game, enough to defeat the Rams, 1-0.


Point starting pitcher Ryan Simpson (SO/Cusseta, AL) (9-7) got the win and allowed seven hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out six batters in a complete seven innings of work.  Bluefield starting pitcher Ali Bartley (1-2) received the loss and allowed five hits, one run, two walks, and struck out three in three innings pitched.  Pitcher Brienna Sparks allowed no hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out three in three innings of relief.


GAME TWO:  The Skyhawks Surged ahead to take a four run lead after three innings, scoring one run in the bottom of the first and using three hits; including two doubles, to score three runs in the third. 


Bluefield tied the game at 4-4 by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth, but neither team could score before the end of the seventh inning, forcing the game into extra innings.  No runs were scored in the first inning of extras, but the Rams took advantage of a Point error in the top of the ninth to score the go-ahead run.  The Skyhawks were handled in order in the bottom of the ninth, losing game two of the doubleheader, 5-4.


Point starter Allie Beilstein (FR/Montgomery, AL) (8-5) suffered her fifth loss of the season and allowed 13 hits, five runs, two earned, four walks, and struck out seven in a complete nine innings of work.  Bluefield starter Cameron Pearson allowed five hits, three runs, no walks, and recorded no strikeouts in just two innings pitched.  Two relief pitchers combined to allow seven hits, one run, no walks, and struck out nine batters across seven innings of work.  The Ram's third relief pitcher Brienna Sparks (3-0) earned her third win of the season.


Point centerfielder Amber Anderson (SR/Hazel Green, AL) finished game two with three hits, one double, and two runs scored.  Pendley, Beilstein, and Second baseman Tomi Kate O'Neal (SR/Birmingham, AL) all finished with two hits, and designated player Ariana Boutwell (SO/Rehobeth, AL) added one hit and contributed two RBI.
