Women's Tennis - Fri, Mar. 10, 2017

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Point University women's tennis (4-7) lost a pair of 9-0 matches during its spring break trip against Spring Arbor University (8-7), March 8, and Lawrence Technological University (4-5), March 9, in intercollegiate action at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C.

Coach Chad Simpson commented, "Point played short a couple players both days of the trip, but I am very impressed that the girls fought for every Point and kept their attitudes positive."

POINT VS. SPRING ARBOR, MARCH 8:  Number two doubles and number two singles player Katie Larck (FR/Champaign, IL) suffered an ankle injury just three points into her doubles match with Luz Padilla (JR/Tucuman, Argentina) and was unable to continue.  Larck also missed her singles match and both singles and doubles against Lawrence Tech the next day.

Team captain Taylor Navarro (SR/Boerne, TX) and Martina Belloni (SO/Palamos, Spain) lost 8-0 to Spring Arbor's Barbara Haikal and Emma Joseph at number two doubles, and Eman Cohen (FR/Columbus, GA) and Victoria White (SR/Kokomo, Ind.) lost 8-3 against Jewell Allen and Brianna Van Ravenswaay at number three doubles.

Belloni trailed 5-1 before defaulting in set one of her number two singles match against Monika Wynne, and Navarro was not available for singles, which forced Coach Simpson to move his three other singles players up one position which results in a default at number six singles.

Cohen moved up to number three singles and lost 6-1, 6-0 to Haikal, and White lost 6-0, 6-0 to Joseph at number four singles. Ashley Lane (JR/LaGrange, GA) lost 6-1, 6-0 at number five singles against VanRavenswaay.

POINT VS. LAWRENCE TECH, MARCH 9:  Point defaulted at numbers five and six singles and number three doubles due to injuries.  Luz Padilla (JR/Tucuman, Argentina) teamed with Martina Belloni and lost 8-2 at number one doubles to Carolyn McCullen and Sabrina Mateos, and Eman Cohen and Victoria White lost 8-0 at number two doubles to Ana Hernandez Munt and Brittany Schmidt.

Padilla lost 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles to McCullen, and Cohen moved up to the number two singles position and lost 6-0, 6-0 to Mateos.  White lost 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles to Munt, and Ashley Lane lost 6-0, 6-0 at number four singles against Maria Alvarez.
