VALLEY, Ala. – The Point University women's tennis team (3-5; 1-1 AAC) won at number two doubles and number five singles in a 7-2 Appalachian Athletics Conference loss to Bluefield College (2-1; 1-0 AAC), Friday, March 3, at the Sportsplex courts in Valley, Ala.


"Bluefield played great today," said head coach Chad Simpson.  "Our girls battled tough, and we were able to get better today.  We now are focused on tomorrow's match against Union and hope to bring home a "W" for Point."


The Lady Skyhawks earned a team point when its number two doubles pair, Taylor Navarro (SR/Boerne, TX) and Martina Belloni (SO/Palamos, Spain) defeated Rebecca Havens and Reagan Coe by an 8-4 score.  Point's Eman Cohen (FR/Columbus, GA) won a second team point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number five singles over Havens.


Bluefield's Paloma Sanchez and Arianna Orozco took an 8-3 win at number one doubles against Point's Katie Larck (FR/Champaign, IL) and Luz Padilla (JR/Tucuman, Argentina), and

Gena Mendoza and MyKenzie Roach defeated Cohen and Victoria White (SR/Kokomo, IN), at number three doubles, 8-0.


With Bluefield leading 2-1, Mendoza defeated Padilla at number one singles, 6-2, 6-0, and Sanchez defeated Larck at number two singles, 6-2, 6-1.  At number three singles, Orozco took a 6-1, 6-0 win over Navarro.  Bluefield won by default at number four singles, and Roach defeated Victoria White (SR/Kokomo, Ind.) at number six singles in an 8-1 super-set.


NEXT MATCH:  Point hosts an Appalachian Athletics Conference home match at the Sportsplex in Valley, Alabama, against Union College (Ky.), Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m.
