VALLEY, Ala. – The Point University women's tennis team improved its season dual-match record to 2-3 with an 8-1 victory over Georgia Wesleyan College (0-1) in Feb. 20 non-conference collegiate women's tennis action at the Sportsplex in Valley, Ala.

 

For the third consecutive match, Point emerged from the doubles competitions with a team lead and added five straight-set singles victories.  Point's Katie Larck (FR/Champaign, IL) and Luz Padilla (JR/Tucuman, Argentina) shut out GWC's Emilie Leveille and Centara Nulf in the number one doubles match, 8-0, and Martina Belloni (SO/Palamos, Spain) and Victoria White (SR/Kokomo, IN) teamed together for an 8-0 win at number three doubles over Rebecca Chang and Gillian Pritchett.  A tougher battle occurred at number two doubles where co-captain Taylor Navarro (SR/Boerne, TX) paired with Eman Cohen (FR/Columbus, GA) for an 8-5 win over Amber Davis and Keondria Epps.

 

The Skyhawks followed with singles victories at the first five positions.  Padilla defeated Leveille at number one singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Larck handled Davis at number two singles, 7-5, 6-0.  Belloni moved up to the number three singles position and defeated Hulf, 6-1, 6-0.  Cohen won the number four match, 6-4, 6-1, over Laura Harness.  White defeated Epps at number five singles, 6-2, 6-1.  Pritchett earned her GWC's only point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles over Ashley Lane (JR/LaGrange, GA).

 

NEXT MATCHES:  Point travels to Montgomery, Alabama for a Thursday, Feb. 23 match at Huntingdon College with the first serve at 3 p.m., and hosts Blue Mountain College (Miss.), Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Sportsplex in Valley, Alabama, at 3 p.m.
