MARION, Ala. – Point University (4-4) lost game one, 3-2, and defeated Judson College in game two, 12-1, in Wednesday, Feb. 15 non-conference women's softball doubleheader action in Marion, Alabama.  Point finished the doubleheader with 28 hits, including six doubles, a triple and one home run.

    

POINT at JUDSON, GAME ONE:  The Skyhawks scored their only two runs in the game during the top of the second inning.  Shortstop Madyson Brown (JR/Valley, AL) led off the inning with a single up the middle and scored when the next batter, first baseman Shea Pendley (SO/Chatsworth, GA), hit a two-run homerun to deep centerfield on a 2-0 count.

 

Judson's starting pitcher Sarah Lippeatt (1-1) got the win and held Point scoreless after the second inning and allowed seven hits, two runs, and struck out four Skyhawks in a complete seven innings of work.  Losing pitcher Ryan Simpson (SO/ Cusseta, AL) (2-4) allowed six hits, three runs, two earned, and struck out four in 6-1/3 innings pitched.

 

Judson scored one run in the second inning, one in the fourth and the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when right fielder Katie Speer scored on a fielder's choice, giving Judson the victory in game one, 3-2. 

 

POINT at JUDSON, GAME TWO:  Point scored two runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third, five in the seventh, and totaled 21 hits against starter Tiffany Watson and reliever Brionna Alvarado in Wednesday's game two.  Point also received two walks and struck out just once in game two.

 

Point starting pitcher Allie Beilstein (FR/Montgomery, AL) (2-0) allowed three hits, one run, two walks, struck out nine batters, in a complete seven innings of work. 

 

Skyhawk centerfielder Amber Anderson (SR/ Hazel Green, AL) finished the game 4-for-5, hit two doubles, one triple, scored one run, and batted in four Skyhawks.  Second baseman Tomi Kate O'Neal (SR/Birmingham, AL) contributed three hits, scored two runs, had two RBI, and designated player Ariana Boutwell (JR/ Rehobeth, AL) added three hits, one double, scored one run, and had two RBI.  Three other Skyhawk batters finished the game with double-digit hits.  Beilstein helped her own cause at the plate with three hits in four at bats and two runs scored.

 

NEXT GAMES:  Coached by Jennifer Tyler, Point travels to Plant City, Florida for four games, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18.  The Skyhawks take on Ave Maria University (Fla.), Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. and Feb. 18, at 12 noon, and also meet Keiser University (Fla.), Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m., and Southeastern University (Fla.), Feb. 18, at 2:30 p.m.
