ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. –The Point University women's golf team finished 12th among 13 teams at the Seventh Annual Winter Invitational, hosted by the University of Coastal Georgia at the King and Prince Golf Course on St. Simons Island, Georgia.  The Skyhawks totaled a 69-over par combined total of 357 strokes among its top four golfers in the first 18-hole round on Monday, Feb. 13, and scored 347 strokes, 59 over par, for a two-day total of 704, and finished just two strokes behind Eastern Florida State College.

SCAD-Atlanta led the final team standings with 641 strokes, 65 over par, and SCAD's Bria Sanders finished second among 68 total golfers with a two-day total of 155, shooting rounds of 79 and 76.  SCAD-Atlanta held second place after the first day and finished four strokes ahead of Cumberland University (Tenn.), which completed the first day in first place by four strokes.

 

Cumberland finished second with a total of 645; and Thomas University (Ga.) and Southeastern University (Fla.) tied for third with two-day totals of 648, 72 over par.  St. Andrews University (N.C.) moved up from sixth place and finished fifth with 650 strokes, and Lydia Randall from SAU won individual honors with rounds of 76 and 74 for a two-day total of 150, five strokes ahead of her nearest competitor.  Faulkner University (Ala.) placed sixth with 658, and Southern Wesleyan University (S.C.) totaled 673 and finished seventh.

 

Point University's Courtney Lowery (JR/Greenville, GA) shot rounds of 84 and 82 for a two-day total of 166, 22 over par, and finished in a tie for 21st place.  Jenna Dawn (SR/Alexandria, KY) scored a round of 90 on the first day and improved to an 85 on day two and finished in a tie for 46th place with a two-day total of 175.  Meghan Keith (SR/Cedartown, GA) shot an 89 on Monday and a 90 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 178 and finished in a tie for 50th place.  Ashley Stamper (JR/McDonough, GA) shot a round of 99 on Monday and improved to a 90 on Tuesday and wound up in 58t place with a two-day total of 189.  Cierra Gunnin (FR/Jefferson, GA) placed 64th with rounds of 95 and 105 for a total of 200.

 

NEXT COMPETITION:  Point hosts the Point University Skyhawk Invitational at Callaway Gardens Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Ga., Monday and Tuesday, March 13-14.
