WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University (1-3) was defeated in its first match at home by the University of Montevallo (1-0), 19-11, in Tuesday, Feb. 14 women's lacrosse action in West Point, Ga.  


Montevallo opened the scoring with a goal just 1:14 into the match, but Point responded with a goal of their own 2:24 later to tie the score at 1-1.  The Falcons then scored three unanswered goals, and led the Skyhawks by three goals with 23:29 left in the first half, 4-1.  Point would score three more goals in the first half of play, but Montevallo outscored the Skyhawks during the first half and led 8-4 at halftime.


The Skyhawks scored two goals during the first 3:19 of the second half to shrink the Falcon's lead to 8-6.  Montevallo responded to the Skyhawk's early scoring by scoring seven unanswered goals during the next 11:50 stretch, and led 15-7 with 14:20 remaining in the contest.  Both teams scored four more goals during the remainder of the match, and Montevallo finished the match with the victory, 19-11.


Five different Skyhawks scored a goal during the match, led by Midfielder Dakota Overton (SO/Newnan, GA) who finished with three goals, six shots, two ground balls, and one defensive clear.  Attacker Cathy Slusher (JR/St. Augustine, FL) and attacker Alexandra Millican (FR/Jacksonville, FL) both added two goals each, and midfielder Kristen Owens (JR/Auburn, AL) and attacker Grace Beardsley (JR/Peachtree City, GA) each scored one goal. 


Eight different Falcons scored a goal, with attackers Alyssa Kaminski and Lauren Ducksworth scoring seven and six goals, respectively.
