GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Point University men's swimming team competed against Brenau University, South Georgia State College and Emmanuel College (Ga.) at the 2017 Brenau University Three-Way Meet, Jan. 28, in Gainesville, Ga.  South Georgia State beat Point, 122-47, and Emmanuel beat Point, 167-28, and South Georgia State, 153-45.

 

Host Brenau University, ranked number six in the current NAIA National Coaches Top Ten, defeated all three of the other schools – 143-52 over South Georgia State; 108-96 over Emmanuel; and 163-28 over Point University.

 

Megan Manning (SO/Deland, FL) placed fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle with her season-best time of 21:06.33 and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with a clocking of 6:06.87, her second-best time of the season.

 

Courteney Darrow (JR/Newnan, GA) placed eighth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:44.16 and eighth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.06, her second-best time of the season.  Katie Johnson (FR/Hebron, KY) placed eighth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:17.24 and tenth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:27.48.

 

McKenzie Dalton (FR/Dothan, AL) placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 31.75 seconds and tenth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:29.25, and Brenna Werst (FR/Eustis, FL) placed tenth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:10.35 and 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:37.75.  Falen Kizunga (SO/Villa Rica, GA) placed eighth in the 50 free in 39.74 seconds and 11th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:42.21.

 

Manning, Werst, Johnson, and Darrow combined in the last event of the meet, the 200-yard freestyle relay, and placed fifth with a time of 2:03.36.

 

NEXT MEET:  Point University women's swimming, coached by Kaymee Kelly, competes next at the Appalachian Athletics Conference (AAC) Swimming Championships, Feb. 8-11, in the Kingsport Aquatics Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
