GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Point University men's swimming team competed against South Georgia State College and Emmanuel College (Ga.) at the 2017 Brenau University Three-Way Meet, Jan. 28, in Gainesville, Ga.  South Georgia State beat Point, 129-48, and Emmanuel beat Point, 163-31, and South Georgia State, 144-56.

 

Collin Bennett (FR/Newnan, GA), Felipe Aguilar (JR/Newnan, GA), Raichel DeFreitas (FR/Willemstad, Curacao) and Taylor Nielsen (FR/Columbus, GA) combined their efforts in the 200-yard medley relay and finished fourth with a time of 1:53.13, Point's second best time of the season and just 73/100ths of a second behind Point's school record of 1:52.40 set earlier this season.  The time also was under the NAIA national cut.

 

Nielsen also finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.81 and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.91 seconds, and DeFreitas placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.32 seconds and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.55 seconds.  Francisco Santos (SO/Bogota, Colombia) placed fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:17.44 and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.41 seconds, and Jelani Hall (FR/Lithonia, GA) placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle in 29.40 seconds and seventh in the 100 freestyle in 1:07.86.

 

Bennett backstroked his way to a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard event with a time of 1:05.67, and Aguilar also placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.62.  Charlie Donnelly (FR/Newnan, GA) placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:21.10.

 

Bennett, Hall, Donnelly and Santos also teamed up for a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:45.79.

 

NEXT MEET:  Point University men's swimming, coached by Kaymee Kelly, competes next at the Appalachian Athletics Conference (AAC) Swimming Championships, Feb. 8-11, in the Kingsport Aquatics Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
