VALLEY, Ala. – The Point University women's swimming team totaled 211 points and finished third among four schools at the 2017 Point University Swimming Invitational, Jan. 14, in the Community Center at the Sportsplex in Valley, Alabama.  The Skyhawks swam one season-best time.

 

South Georgia State won the women's team title with 437 points, just 33 points ahead of Thomas University (Ga.), which totaled 404 points, Point with 211, and Life University (Ga.) with 143.

 

Courteney Darrow (JR/Newnan, GA), McKenzie Dalton (FR/Dothan, AL), Megan Manning (SO/Deland, FL) and Katie Johnson (FR/Hebron, KY) combined for a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:10.9, and Manning, Brenna Werst (FR/Eustis, FL), Falen Kizunga (SO/Villa Rica, GA), and Darrow placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:13.32.

 

Darrow also placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:52.68 and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:35.77.  Manning also swam Point's first 400-yard individual medley effort of the season and finished sixth with a time of 5:34.86, and also placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:09.70.

 

Dalton placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 31.44 seconds, eighth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:15.16, and eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 3:26.36.  Kizunga, in her first swimming action of the season, also placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 37.39 seconds and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:47.80.

 

Johnson also placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:51.63 and tenth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:27.06, and Werst finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 3:40.64 and 11th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:50.43.
