VALLEY, Ala. – The Point University men's swimming team totaled 208 points and finished third among three schools at the 2017 Point University Swimming Invitational, Jan. 14, in the Community Center at the Sportsplex in Valley, Alabama.  The Skyhawks swam one season-best time.


Thomas University (Ga.). which ranks seventh in the current NAIA Top 10 Coaches' poll, won the men's team title with 524 points, well ahead of South Georgia State College, which totaled 400 points, and Point with 208 points.


Francisco Santos (SO/Bogota, Colombia) placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle swim with a season-best time of 54.56 seconds and also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:32.12 and third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:29.55.


Santos also swam Point's second leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay that placed fourth with a time of 1:39.84.  Collin Bennett (FR/Newnan, GA) led off the 200-yard free relay, with Santos next, Felipe Aguilar (JR/Newnan, GA) in third position, and Raichel DeFreitas (FR/Willemstad, Curacao) swimming the anchor leg.


Bennett, Charlie Donnelly (FR/Newnan, GA), Aguilar, and Jelani Hall (FR/Lithonia, GA) teamed up for the 200-yard medley relay and placed fifth with a time of 2:02.67.


Bennett also placed fourth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:22.01 and seventh in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:31.01, and Donnelly placed sixth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 13:39.09 and sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2;59.60.  Aguilar also posted a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:25.15, and Hall also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 30.41 seconds, sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.03, and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:34.64.
