SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Point University women's swimming team finished in 14th place with 10 points at the 12th Annual Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah Invitational, Dec. 1-3, in the Chatham County Aquatics Center in Savannah, Ga.  The Lady Skyhawks set six school records and recorded 12 season-best times in the three-day event.

 

The meet featured four nationally-ranked teams, including two top-ranked teams: Emory University of Atlanta, which ranks number one in the NCAA Division III and the host SCAD-Savannah, which holds the number one spot in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' poll.  Wingate University (N.C.), the champion in both divisions this weekend, ranks ninth in the NCAA Division II, and Brenau University (Ga.) ranks number five in the NAIA.

 

Wingate won the women's team title with 1273 points, well ahead of Emory's 559 points and third-place SCAD-Savannah's total of 418.  Brenau finished fourth with 314, and Converse College (S.C.) placed fifth with 211.  Catawba (N.C.) totaled 144 for sixth place.

 

Megan Manning (SO/Deland, FL), Brenna Werst (FR/Eustis, FL), Katie Johnson (FR/Hebron, KY) and Courteney Darrow (JR/Newnan, GA) combined for a 17th-place finish with a school record and season-best time of 1:51.95 in the 200-yard freestyle relay and qualified for the NAIA National Championship Meet, March 1-4, in Columbus, Ga.  The quartet also placed 17th with a season-best time of 4:07.12 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

 

Darrow, McKenzie Dalton (FR/Dothan, AL), Johnson and Manning placed 22nd in the 200-yard medley relay with a school record and season-best time of 2:05.13 and qualified for the NAIA National Championship Meet.  The same foursome also placed 19th in the 400-yard medley relay with another NAIA cut and a season-best time of 4:35.18.

 

Manning also set a new school record and season-best time of 26.85 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and placed 42nd.  She also set a school record and swam a season-best time of 1:04.84 and placed 31st in a preliminary race in the 100-yard butterfly, and placed 38th in the preliminaries of the 100-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 58.07 seconds.

 

Dalton set a school record and season-best time in a preliminary race in the 100-yard breaststroke event (1:22.04) and added a second record and season-best time of 3:02.16 in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke.  Darrow swam a season-best time of 1:07.35 in a 100-yard backstroke preliminary heat and a season-best time of 2:28.18 in a 200-yard backstroke preliminary heat.  She was clocked in the 200 backstroke finals in 2:28.90, and also swam a 28.28 time in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle.

 

Johnson swam a season-best time of 2:42.69 in a preliminary heat of the 200-yard butterfly , and posted a 28.56 clocking in a 50-freestyle prelim.  Werst finished 54th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.85 seconds and 48th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.88.
