WEST POINT, Ga. – Point University cross country runners Brayton Gineris (JR/McDonough, GA), Abby Contreras (JR/Peachtree City, GA) and Lara McCaughey (SR/Peachtree City, GA) have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the 2016 season.  A total of 222 men's cross country runners and 335 women's runners were listed.


In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or Sports Information Director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved an academic standing of junior or higher.


Gineris placed 44th among 96 runners in the Appalachian Athletics Conference Championship meet with a time of 29:24.1 over the 8000-meter course and was Point's number one finisher three times during the season.  He set the school 5000-meter record with a time of 17:13 at the Wingfoot Classic, Sept. 24, and ran his season-best 8000-meter time of 28:05.57 at the ASICS Sand Shark Invitational, Oct. 22.


Contreras finished 64th overall among 102 runners at the AAC Championships, Nov. 5, with a time of 24:12.7, and ran a season-best 5000-meter time of 23:36.44 at the ASICS Sand Shark Invitational, Oct. 22.


McCaughey finished 80th overall in the conference meet with a time of 26:44.3, and recorded her season-best 5000-meter time of 24:58.04 at the ASICS Sand Shark Invitational.
